Borrowed: Dove Campaign for Real Beauty

Posted on October 9th, 2008

I first became aware of Dove’s ad campaign while traveling with a group of high school students in New York City back in 2005. I wish I could remember the details, but among the barrage of advertisements in Manhattan, these billboards, depicting a variety of different sized women in their underwear, were the only ones that became a topic of conversation. Along with the fact that this video has spawned many parodies, at least one of which is worth watching, Dove has clearly put their finger on something that is wrong in our culture. I’d love to hear your reactions to the video.

New: Mandolinist

Mandolinist

The mandolinist known simply as Christy was showing off her string picking skills when I stumbled upon her street performance in East Swanzey, New Hampshire. I think she’s going to make it all the way to Keene some day.

Old: Red-Tailed Hawk

Red-Tailed Hawk

This red-tailed hawk can often be seen perched atop the steeple of Salem Covenant Church in Worcester, but it came down to a nearby tree and let me come within 20 feet.

Blue (Orange!): Pumpkins

Blue Pumpkins

What started as little more than a snapshot of pumpkins at a roadside farm stand becomes a little more interesting when a shift in hues plays with our perception of reality. Maybe this is what would happen if the Easter Bunny had his way with Halloween.
