One of my favorites from last weekend’s portrait sessions. Judging from the incredible costumes, their upcoming performance of The Pharoah’s Daughter is going to be incredible.

While shooting portraits for the students at the Acton School of Ballet, I had the opportunity to photograph Kristina Wright, one of the professional dancers on their faculty.

I was the so-called “second shooter” at a wedding this weekend. It’s a fun position to be in because you have more time to look for details and moments that are more easily missed as the main shooter and worrying about the main events. I liked this moment as the dad was waiting for everyone to get ready for the reception introductions. I usually like it best when the subjects are not aware of the camera, because awareness often makes them self-conscious and they start posing. This time, though, he acknowledged me with a charming smile that said, “caught me,’ and otherwise remained the way I first saw him.

I’m always excited to see new life come into old neighborhoods. Pepe’s just opened on 274 Franklin St., right next to the Firehouse where the Cold Storage fire happened (and nearby the photos for the last three days). I stopped in to pick up a temporary menu before opening hours, and they were still working hard polishing up the loose ends. A few of the crew agreed to have their pictures taken behind the bar. I look forward to trying their pizza, even if it isn’t Chicago style, so let me know if anyone’s interested in trying it out!

Last Saturday, I took photos for Alpha Xi Delta’s spring formal, and the students from WPI were required to travel together to their destination. I took lots of pictures of them getting on the bus, but this woman happened to blink. I will often look for ways to save a photograph when someone blinks, so I cropped down to what was most humorous about the whole situation: the culture class of people in formalwear boarding a school bus. The clash of prom-dress pink and school bus orange only added to the photo.
